I'm still getting a lot of wear out of my summer dresses in the hot weather but comfortable jeans are another wardrobe staple. Light washes are perfect for the season and Alex Jones just showcased why you can't go wrong with straight-leg cuts.
She recently took to Instagram to give fans a glimpse at her new hens now they've settled in at what she's dubbed Cluckingham Palace. Alex was dressed casually in light blue straight-cut jeans which fell to just above her ankles.
Straight jeans are a great shape for everyday as they're not restrictive or fitted on the leg which makes them super comfortable.

Shop Light Jeans Like Alex's

Woven with a hint of stretch, these high-rise jeans define the waist beautifully and have a lovely leg-elongating effect. They're straight-cut and fall to the ankle, showcasing your footwear of choice. Like Alex's denim, they're a light blue wash that's great for the season.

Available in five different lengths, these affordable jeans from M&S are a good staple to have in your collection. They're mid-rise and cotton-rich, with added stretch for comfort. The ankle-length cut is ideal for summer and they're a contemporary straight-leg shape.

These straight-leg jeans come in several different colours, including this light blue shade, and are crafted from 100% cotton. They're high-waisted and are designed to ease with wear, providing a great fit and authentic denim feel. Five pocket styling finishes them off beautifully.
Complete the Look

Made from glossy patent leather, these slingbacks are another lovely option if you like the idea of red shoes but aren't as sold on Mary Janes. They're flat and have a flattering chisel-toe, with an elasticated strap to keep your feet secure.

Designed with a streamlined fit, this Tee is easy to tuck into jeans, trousers and skirts for a seamless finish. There's added stretch in the material and a neat crew neckline completes the sleek look. It also comes in several other versatile neutral shades.

These affordable ballet flats are crafted from faux suede and have a chic square toe shape. The adjustable buckle strap is a practical addition and the padded footbed boosts the comfort. Pop on with a classic outfit like Alex's and these will bring a fun edge.
They are also more streamlined than wide or barrel-leg jeans and this gives you plenty of flexibility with styling. I'd usually wear wide-leg jeans with a fitted top to keep my frame in proportion but straight styles work well with sleek or relaxed tops.
The One Show presenter Alex chose to go for an option that most people will be able to recreate with their summer capsule wardrobes - a white T-shirt. It's easy to underestimate how useful a plain Tee is or dismiss them as a boring option.
However, a white T-shirt and blue jeans are a timeless combination and because they're so neutral you can really have fun with the rest of your look and incorporate pops of colour through your accessories. This is what Alex Jones did, as she finished off her August ensemble with M&S red flats.
Unlike traditional ballet pumps, these had a Mary Jane strap and silver studs giving them a contemporary edge. Because they're bold, the best way to wear them is with a simple outfit so straight-leg jeans and a Tee was the perfect choice. Alternatively, go for white trainers or sandals right now and swap to boots when the seasons change.
The slightly cropped length and shape of the jeans showcased Alex's flats beautifully, rather than covering them up as wide-leg denim would've done. The broadcaster tucked her top into her jeans and you don't have to have a perfectly seamless finish to give an extra elegant flourish.
Alex's T-shirt was loosely tucked and this worked well with the relaxed feel of the outfit. Light blue denim tends to look more casual than indigo or deep washes. She reaches for paler blue jeans all year round and has worn them with cream cable knit jumpers and Ugg Tasmans before.

However, if you want something that's a little less summery then go for mid-blue jeans as they aren't as big of a contrast against deeper autumnal tones. The sun was shining down on the TV star in her video introducing the family's newest additions.
She got the chickens from the British Hen Welfare Trust, who rescues ex-commercial hens and the charity were thrilled to see them, commenting, "Love this, Alex! They look so happy and healthy, and it's lovely to see how much joy they're bringing you and your family. Thank you again for your support and for giving your flock such a wonderful home."
