Aldi worker says certain shoppers get special treatment based on how often they visit

An Aldi worker has said that some shoppers are given favourable treatment by staff - and it all depends on how long you've been a customer.

Kyle, an employee of the German family-owned discount supermarket chain, said that in America customers need a coin to use the trolley but some forget to bring one.

He said that he'll lend a coin to some customers, but only if they're new to the store - if they're a return customer then he expects them to remember.

Kyle, who lives in Virginia, went on to say this is because each coin he lends out has to come from his till and if it's not returned then he is short at the end of his shift.

What do you think about Kyle's revelation? Let us know in the comments...

Speaking to Mental Floss, Kyle said: "I try not to give them a quarter because the quarters we give come out of our own registers.

“So if we don't get them back, we end up losing money out of our own drawer.

"If it's a first-time shopper, I gladly give them a quarter and explain to them why we have this system in place, and pretty much every person is very understanding on why we do it.”

Other Aldi employees have lifted the lid on what it's like to work there, saying that they have to walk a lot, and only get to sit down at the checkout because it means they can scan items through quicker.

Staff are also monitored to see how quickly they scan items, and some are expected to get through 1,200 products per hour.

To get customers through the store as quickly as possible, customers are 'trained' to be ready to pay promptly and move away from the till, according to another member of staff.

A spokesperson for Aldi in the UK said there is no such policy in place here, and the US representatives have been approached for comment.

Meanwhile, a Tesco worker recently shared one thing that many customers say which makes her cringe.

Even though people can be rubbish at small talk, we still keep trying, even when the odds are stacked against us and we know that anyone listening to the forced conversation and bad jokes will be curling in on themselves with secondhand embarrassment.

And to prove that point, one Tesco employee on TikTok has shared some of the most common things customers say to her when they put their shopping on the conveyor belt - and all of them make her cringe.

The worst part? I know I've definitely said each one at least once, and I bet you have too.
