Aldi shoppers rave about 'delicious' 99p spread amidst rising cost of butter

Aldi shoppers are raving about a low-cost olive oil spread that costs less than £1 amidst the rising cost of tubs of butter in supermarkets.

While Lurpak is usually the go-to choice for the fridge staple, the Danish owned brand has gone viral online for their recent surge in prices. Shoppers have flocked to social media to share the prices they are being charged for Lurpak butter at the supermarket, with one charging over a whopping £9.

Naturally, shoppers have been looking any cheaper alternatives - and it looks like Aldi has once again become the place to be for any low cost alternatives.

The budget supermarket's Greenvale Olive Spread has received glowing reviews from shoppers who say that they will "give it a go" following the recent rise in butter prices. Priced at just 99p for a 50g tub, Aldi's spread is considerably cheaper than a same size tub from Lurpak which would cost £5.

And while the German grocer's olive spread is not technically butter, many of their devoted fans have said the spread is "delicious" and definitely worth making the switch.

The spread gained attention on Facebook recently (Facebook/Aldi UK Shoppers)

The spread gained attraction after one savvy shopper tried it out and shared it to the Aldi UK Shoppers Group on Facebook. They said: "I’m not really keen on olives or olive oil but I must say this is rather nice and for only 99p you can’t really go wrong.

Taste 5/5. Price 5/5".

The post quickly gained the attention of hundreds of shoppers who say that they have made the switch to the spread following the recent rise in costs.

"My hubby swears bye this spread been using this spread for at least 5 years now x", raved one shopper.

"I changed to this for norpak because of price and I love it", said a second.

"I’m not paying silly prices for butter so will give this a go !!!", praised a third.

"I will try this my usual is lurpak olive oil but at £4.99 time to make a change I think. Thanks for sharing", said a fourth.

"I bought it the other day and it's delicious will definitely buy it again to the more expensive brand", commented a fifth.

While 99p is a fairly decent price for a 500g tub, some shoppers were quick to point out that the spread had not been immune to rising costs, as it used to cost much less. However, the rise in price was not enough to deter shoppers who said they "can't complain".

"I remember it being 69p can’t complain at 99p I always buy it", said one shopper.

"This is the only one we use it use to be 75p I think then I went to buy again it was 99p still can't complain its lovely", said a second.
