Aldi shoppers 'need' £7.99 Special Buy that keeps you warm for 2p an hour without the heating

Aldi has launched a Special Buy item that will keep shoppers warm for less this winter. The budget-friendly retailer has a £7.99 product that will cost just 2p an hour in energy, meaning householders won't have to put the heating on.

Shoppers are looking for cost-effecting ways to keep warm amid the cost of living crisis. In October it was announced that the two-year energy price freeze, which sees the average household pay a yearly bill of £2,500, will now run for just six months.

The government said the guarantee, which caps the price per unit of energy, will be reviewed following the winter with targeted support introduced from April 2023. It means many consumers are shopping for products that promise to save on energy to keep their gas and electricity bills down.

Searches are also on the rise for energy-saving home appliances ahead of Black Friday and Aldi is the latest to launch with their super-size hot water bottle. With a huge 1.7L capacity and over twice the size of an average hot water bottle, Aldi’s long hot water bottle is designed to keep more of the body warm at any one time.

The retailer describes it as the "perfect way to stay toasty whilst the heating isn’t on." It comes complete with a soft and cosy faux fur cover, available in four colours including navy, dark grey, light pink blush and cream.

Aldi’s Long Hot Water Bottle (Aldi)

The long hot water bottle will only cost around 2p an hour to run based on the average price of boiling a kettle. The average cost per unit of electricity now is 34p and the average two2-litre kettle has a power rating of three kilowatts per hour (kWh).

Using the following sum: Power used (0.225kWh) x cost of one kWh (34p), the cost of boiling your kettle today for two cups of hot water (500ml) is around 2p. Of course, the hot water bottle is 1.7 litres so if consumers wanted to fill it all the way up it would cost between 4p and 8p.

Aldi's super size long hot water bottle is available to pre-order online now here and it will also be in stores from November 13.
