Aldi has issued a recall alert over a popular item that "may present a health risk".
The budget retailer has notified shoppers of the “undeclared allergen” after a freezer product was pulled from sale.
The supermarket giant said its supplier is recalling Let’s Party Vegetable Bao Buns “due to an error meaning some products contain an undeclared allergen (sesame) as well as duck meat which is not listed on the packaging."
It added: "This may present a health risk to anyone with a sesame allergy."
All date codes of the item have been impacted.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has flagged the issue with the product on its website, assuring Aldi has “contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell members about the recall”.
The FSA, which is responsible for protecting public health in relation food in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, issues regular alerts.
It has noted: "If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).”
Sometimes items will be pulled from the shelves or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect, or if there is any other food allergy risk.
Aldi has apologised the 8 pack Bao Buns did not meet the supermarket’s “normal high standards”.
It is urging customers who have bought the affected item to “not consume the product and return it to your nearest store for a full refund".
Those who have purchased the product can identify it with the the barcode reading 4061463842909.
