Fans of Cuthbert the Caterpillar will soon be able to put their baking skills to the test to create their very own version of the infamous chocolate cake thanks to Aldi.
The popular budget supermarket's iconic mascot gained the attention of fans - and a lawsuit with M&S - when he was first launched back in 2021. After the legal dispute with M&S and being unavailable for a year, the viral edible caterpillar made his triumphant return in June this year.
And, if you can't find him on the supermarket's shelves, then Aldi is giving shoppers the chance to whip him up in the kitchen themselves by launching their very own Cuthbert Cake Kit. Priced at just £4.99, the kit is the same price as the fully assembled cake you would normally buy.
The kit comes complete with super cute Cuthbert cake moulds that will let fans create Cuthbert's cheeky face, feet, crown and wings from the comforts of their own home. The moulds are available to pre-order now and will be available in store nationwide from Thursday, September 8.
The adorable cake kit will be available to buy as part of Aldi's infamous middle aisle section - which is collectively known by devoted fans as Specialbuys. The unique range of items changes every Thursday and Sunday, and contains everything from homeware and kids toys to clothing and beauty products.
This is not the first time that Aldi's viral caterpillar has appeared in a different form, as the supermarket previously sent fans wild with a Cuthbert plush toy that was available for just £3.99 last November.
The arrival of the Cuthbert Cake Kit comes just after the chocolate cake made his triumphant return to Aldi stores following a legal dispute with high-street retailer M&S. The two retailer's went to court after M&S accused the supermarket of 'infringing' on their Colin the Caterpillar cake in what has since been dubbed the "caterpillar cake wars."
The legal drama captured the attention of the nation and even led to the hashtag #freecuthbert to trend on Twitter after Aldi had to pull the cheeky caterpillar cake from their store shelves. However, after a year of being in caterpillar jail, Cuthbert was officially released back into stores on June 6 2022 after the two retailers settled their dispute.
And in true witty Aldi style, the German grocer announced the return of their viral caterpillar cake with a series of sarcastic billboards and advertisements outside of M&S branches across the UK.
Aldi's Cuthbert Caterpillar Cake Moulds are available to pre-order now and will land in-stores this Thursday, September 8.
