Aldi branded 'ruthless' by shoppers over fizzy juice 'dupes' that cost just 59p a bottle

Popular supermarket chain Aldi has been branded absolutely "ruthless" by devoted fans over two flavours of fizzy juice shoppers think are very similar to a popular brand.

The discounted German grocer has become iconic for its range of 'dupes' that are almost identical to their branded counterparts, but at a fraction of the cost. It's this ability that has previously seen them in trouble with other retailers, such as M&S who sued Aldi after they claimed their Cuthbert The Caterpillar was too similar to their iconic Colin The Caterpillar.

And it looks like the budget supermarket is at it again, but this time they have taken on one of the UK's best loved fizzy juice brand - Fanta.

Aldi's Vive Lemon and Twisted Fruits flavours of fizzy juice were shared to the NewFoodsUK Facebook page, and shoppers noticed that the packaging was eerily similar to Fanta's iconic Fruit Twist and Lemon flavours.

Priced at just 59p a bottle, Aldi's own-branded flavours are much cheaper than their branded counterpart which retails at around £1.70 for the same 2L bottle.

A post to the popular food Facebook page was captioned: "Lemon and Twisted Fruits bottles spotted at Aldi UK." The post quickly managed to rack up a whopping 3.2k likes and 3.8k comments from shoppers who thought that the supermarket make it "blatantly obvious" which brand they are copying.

"Aldi are so ruthless", exclaimed one shopper.

"Aldi make it blatantly obvious what brand they are trying to copy, the designs of the labels are always very similar to the official brand. Much more so than Lidl.", said a second.

"It’s like selling fake Calvin Klein you just don’t do it, but I love Aldi for doing these dupes hahah", joked a third shopper.

While a fifth sarcastically wrote: "What's next? They gonna knock off head and shoulders and call it "Knees and Toes" or call famous grouse whiskey, "The lonely Turkey"".

A sixth commented: "They have a similar logo to Fanta that's a bit suss to me".

Despite quite a few shoppers taken issue with the fact that the packaging was so similar to Fanta, there were many who were quick to comment on the "lovely" flavours."

"That lemon zero is lovely", commented one impressed shopper.

"Taste the same as Fanta so they are definitely worth the price x", wrote a another shopper.
