Aldi has been putting out 'designer based' fragrances for some time but it is the latest home fragrance that has got shoppers excited. As the fashion for candles and reed diffusers continues, the budget retailer has launched a £5 candle that shoppers are calling a dupe of a £150 version.
Fans of the store are saying that the latest 'middle aisle' purchase smells 'just like' a jar sold by candle maker to the stars - Jo Malone. Aldi promoted the candles on Instagram for Father's Day, saying: "Some Dads just like a nice candle, and that’s exactly what these are." It added: "Pick up a Hotel Collection Dual Fragrance Candle to make his man cave smell amazing this Father’s Day."
Shoppers soon picked up on the likeness. One shopper identified the dupe, saying: "It’s Jo Malone replicas (Scarlet Poppy Jo Malone)". And while one person said: "need to try them", another added: "Just don’t tell dad."

Social media was alight with love for the candles according to Manchester Evening News, which picked up on comments that the candles smell 'exactly like' Jo Malone, which cost £150 (600g). Jo Malone's range includes a English pear and freesia and lime basil and mandarin fragrance and peony and blush suede and pomegranate noir.
Aldi's candles come in at £4.99 for the two-wick, 450g design. The scent can also be found in diffuser form. Both from the Hotel Collection, a Dual Fragrance Reed Diffusers Set is priced at £8.99.
