Politicians are pretty familiar with pressing the flesh, but on a trip to Perth Anthony Albanese has taken matters further, signing on skin.
The recipient? A journalist seeking a prime ministerial commitment that there won't be any changes to Western Australia's GST allocation.
The West Australian newspaper on Monday published a front page seeking Mr Albanese "take (a) GST vow" to enshrine WA's GST deal, inviting the prime minister to sign his name beneath the promise.
The state gets at least 70 cents of every dollar of GST collected in WA under the federal government's distribution plan.
When asked at a press conference by the Perth reporter whether he would back in the pledge, Mr Albanese went one step further.
"I'd be happy to sign your arm if you like," Mr Albanese told journalist Dylan Caporn.
"If we're going to have a stunt, let's do a good one. Let's go to a tattoo parlour, we can get it tattooed or if you like I can do it by Texta."
Blue marker pen in hand, the prime minister signed Caporn's forearm, while further challenging the reporter in the process.
"You want something permanent? Let's get serious. I'm worried about your lack of commitment here that you won't go and get a tatt," he said.
