Alan Cumming weighs in on Kate Forbes leadership campaign

SCOTTISH actor Alan Cumming has expressed surprise that Kate Forbes is being considered to lead the SNP due to her opinions on equal marriage and abortion.

In an Instagram post, Cumming said it was "blowing" his mind that Forbes was in the running to become Scotland's next First Minister.

He said: "It's just blowing my mind that someone who wouldn't have voted for marriage equality, who thinks having a child outside of marriage is wrong and who actually has to be asked where she stands on abortion is even being remotely considered to be the leader of Scotland.

"What the actual f***? #neverteamkateforbes"

Cumming, a vocal supporter and friend of Nicola Sturgeon, has already backed Humza Yousaf in the leadership contest.

He made headlines earlier this year for handing back his OBE after having his "eyes opened" to the history of the British Empire.

He and his husband Grant entered a civil partnership in 2007 before getting married in New York in 2012.

While Forbes has said she would not have voted for legislation legalising same-sex marriage in Scotland in 2014, she has repeatedly stated that, as first minister, she would uphold the rights of all minorities already on the statute books.
