Ajax send blunt Antony exit message after Manchester United transfer

Ajax have posted an eight-word message on social media following Antony‘s move to Manchester United, with the Brazilian winger arriving at Old Trafford for a fee rising to €100million (£85.1m).

The 22-year-old attacker, who signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with the option of an additional year, will be reunited with his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag. United have paid Ajax €95m up front, with €5m due in add-ons. The fee includes a solidarity payment to Sao Paulo, Antony's first professional club.

Antony was brought to the Amsterdam club by Ten Hag two years ago from Brazilian side Sau Paulo — with the winger going on to win two Eredivisie titles and the Dutch Cup under the Dutchman.

During his time in the Netherlands, Antony made 82 appearances and registered 24 goals and provided 22 assists. He joins Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen in signing for United this summer.

The Brazilian started the new season in impressive form for Ajax, grabbing two goals and two assists in his first three appearances of the 2022/23 campaign. However, he then went on strike to push through a transfer to United and was left out of Ajax's last two matchday squads.

After his move to Old Trafford was confirmed, the Eredivisie giants send a goodbye message to Antony on social media, thanking him for his time with the club.

The club wrote on Twitter: "Thanks for the beautiful game. We enjoyed it, @Antony00".

Ajax also released a statement following the completion of the deal, which read: "The transfer of Antony Matheus dos Santos from Ajax to Manchester United has been completed. The winger had a contract with Ajax until 30 June 2025.

"Ajax have reached an agreement with the English club regarding a transfer fee of €95million. That fee can build up to €100million through variables."

On his own Twitter, Antony posted: "It's days like this that make us understand that it was all worth it, that every dream was never in vain!! Today I arrive at the biggest club in England, one of the biggest in the world and I just have to thank everyone who was part of this journey!

"My family, my friends, my staff and every United fan, who filled my social media with messages!! It was your call that brought me here!! Let’s get it started!"

The 22-year-old is not available for selection against Leicester City on Thursday night, but he could make his United debut against current league-leaders Arsenal at the weekend.
