Chandigarh: AG Punjab and SGGS Hockey Club-26 entered the semifinals of the ongoing Chandigarh State Senior Hockey championships after registering contrasting victories in their final league encounters here.
The other two semifinalists are CISF and 3BD Air Force, who will lock horns in the second game of the knockout stage here on Wednesday.
Earlier in their final league match, AG Punjab bounced back from a goal’s deficit to defeat CHFA 2-1 in a thrilling encounter. It was the CHFA team that gained the upper hand in the first half with a 1-0 lead after Deepak successfully converted a penalty corner in the 23rd minute.
Desperately looking for the equaliser, AG Punjab’s perseverance paid off in the 35th minute when Vasudev found the net. The AG team did not stop there as Parwinder came back in the very next minute to double the lead with a brilliant goal that left the opposition defence searching for cover.
The next match turned out a lop-sided affair in favour of SGGS Hockey Club-26, which registered a commanding 10-1 win over Rock Rovers Club. The SGGS Club dominated the proceedings from the start with hat-trick man Yograj emerging the star. He started the onslaught with a field goal in the 2nd minute of the contest before Ranjot fired in another in the next minute to make it 2-0 in favour of the SGGS side.
