Ahead of GTA 6, Rockstar-owned GTA 5 RP mega mod FiveM breaks its own Steam record with 200,000 concurrent players

GTA 5 roleplay mod FiveM seems to be getting more popular every week, now reaching a new milestone on Steam ahead of the GTA 6 release later this year.

Since there were roughly 50 years between the release of GTA 5 and now, fans have had to find ways to entertain themselves with Rockstar Games' open-world classic. And sure, there have been tons of updates to GTA Online, but one of the most rejuvenating things for the game was the popularity of roleplay servers. This became such a massive thing that Rockstar outright acquired Cfx.re – the team behind the FiveM and RedM roleplay mods – hopefully to officially integrate it into future games.

Late last year, FiveM was added to Steam as an application (however, it doesn't have a dedicated Steam page, instead it is tracked upon launching the mod within GTA 5), and according to SteamDB the mod passed a new milestone this past weekend.

Since being tracked on Steam in December 2025, FiveM has been pretty much continuously growing week by week. And after coming very close with a high of 197,976 on the previous weekend, FiveM finally breached the 200,000 mark this past weekend, with it hitting an all-time high of 202,756 on Sunday, March 15.

Granted, the mod also works with the Epic Games store version of the game – which was given out for free during the Covid-19 pandemic – so there's a chance that that number is even higher than that. Regardless, it's an impressive milestone for a mod that has somewhat outshone the official GTA Online for many people, and an exciting look at what's to come with GTA 6, should Rockstar implement the mode officially.

Some of GTA 6's big ideas are likely hiding in GTA 5, ex-Rockstar dev predicts – and you can look at GTA 4 to see why
