Good afternoon.
It’s been more than a year since a Victorian jury found Erin Patterson guilty of murdering three of her estranged husband’s relatives and attempting to murder a fourth at a beef wellington lunch. Today, Patterson, 51, began an appeal against her convictions, while the DPP is appealing against the sentence handed down to her, arguing it is “manifestly inadequate”.
Patterson watched proceedings via video link from the Dame Phyllis Frost centre, a women’s prison, and did not speak during the hearing. The sole surviving lunch guest, Ian Wilkinson, was in the courtroom this morning and told media: “I make an offer of forgiveness to Erin … Now I am no longer Erin Patterson’s victim, and she has become the victim of my kindness”.

Footage streamed by SpaceX shows the moment Elon Musk’s 52-metre Starship Flight 13 landed in the Indian Ocean west of Australia. The rocket landed in the ocean on 24 July. Nearly four weeks later, it was recovered off the coast of Christmas Island.
