The body of missing 18-year-old bushwalker Lily Hooper has been found in a remote New South Wales national park more than a week after she set out on her hike.
Initially, police media reported a “hiker” had been found after the multi-agency search in the rugged terrain of Nattai national park, about 90km south-west of Sydney.
The NSW premier, Chris Minns, had told parliament she’d been “found alive” with half a bottle of water, but within minutes he announced: “I’ve got some terrible news. I apologise … it seems as if the earlier advice was wrong.”
The police assistant commissioner Joe Cassar told reporters: “There’s no playbook to communication.”

“The Australian government will not stop pressing Israel for justice for Ms Frankcom and her colleagues.” – Anthony Albanese
The Albanese government has expressed “outrage” over the Israel Defense Forces decision not to open a criminal investigation into Gaza strikes that killed the Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom. But Israel’s ambassador to Australia, Hillel Newman, offered no concession, insisting the process was appropriate while refusing to apologise for the seven humanitarian workers’ deaths, citing legal implications.
When asked in question time how the Australian government will ensure justice is served, Albanese said Israel’s decision to close their investigation without criminal proceedings “falls far short of the accountability that we expect and consistently called for on behalf of Australia. Since the tragic killings, the government has consistently made clear our expectation for transparency, and we’ve pressed for full accountability.”
