Oregon emergency officials are urging families to check in with loved ones and have age-appropriate conversations with children after a shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend killed three children and a teacher on Thursday, Oct. 15. The Oregon Department of Emergency Management shared crisis lines and child trauma resources with the community, KATU reported.
The children killed were boys ages 5, 8, and 11, and the teacher was 25, ABC News reported. A 7-year-old girl was in serious but stable condition as of Friday, and a 54-year-old teacher had serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the shooter, a 16-year-old former student, was fatally shot inside the classroom by a community member whose two children attend the school. The motive remains under investigation.
