A rapist is facing deportation back to Ireland after he was jailed for preying on his drunk housemate.
Alifaisal Azim was sentenced to 21 months for attacking the woman at their flat in Vancouver, Canada, in April 2019.
The 30-year-old was originally from Afghanistan but moved to Dublin as a child refugee before relocating to the Canadian city where his victim worked as a pub manager.

Jasvinder Basran told the Supreme Court in Vancouver how the woman had come home after drinking and Azim followed her into her bedroom where “they had unprotected sexual intercourse”.
The judge said the victim was sore and took the morning after pill after the attack in which she lacked the capacity to consent. Azim grew up in Dublin and got a degree in computer science before he got a two‑year permit to work in Canada.
Justice Basran ruled: “As a consequence of his criminal conviction in this matter, Mr Azim is inadmissible to Canada.
“He will likely be deported back to Ireland after serving his sentence.”
