Coming out of the bye week, the Houston Texans are in good standing.
Sitting at 8-5, the Texans hold a two-game over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South standings entering Week 15’s showdown against the Miami Dolphins. The Colts take on the Denver Broncos, so Houston can’t clinch the division title with a win over one of the league’s hottest rosters.
As of now, the Texans are currently fourth in the AFC, but remain two games behind the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills for the No. 3 seed. Here’s a look at the conference standings with four weeks remaining.
- Kansas City Chiefs: 12-1 (Clinched AFC West)
- Buffalo Bills: 10-3 (Clinched AFC East)
- Pittsburgh Steelers: 10-3 (AFC North)
- Houston Texans: 8-5 (AFC South)
- Baltimore Ravens: 8-5 (wild card)
- Los Angeles Chargers: 8-5 (wild card)
- Denver Broncos: 8-5 (wild card)
- Miami Dolphins 6-7
- Indianapolis Colts: 6-7
According to The Athletic’s playoff simulator, the Texans’ postseason odds currently sit at 97%. They also have a 94.1% chance to win the division, which shows that their likeliest path to the postseason is through the AFC South.
As long as the Texans win two of their final four games, they should be a lock to make the playoffs. Having an in-division loss would also benefit Houston, which currently sits at 4-1 in the division.
