
Relocating to a new country often means rebuilding both personal and professional life from the ground up. For entrepreneurs and engineers, the challenge extends beyond adaptation to a new culture and regulatory environment – it requires finding ways to apply existing expertise in an unfamiliar market while creating new opportunities for growth.
For Ukrainian engineer and inventor Yurii Khomuilo, now based in Washington State, the transition became an opportunity to combine engineering services, entrepreneurship, and innovation under one company: AENG Solution LLC.
Bringing Engineering Expertise to a New Market
Before moving to the United States, Khomuilo built an extensive engineering career in Ukraine. Between 2020 and 2025, he served as Chief Engineer at Actual Engineering Solutions LLC in Kyiv, the official distributor and service center Schneider Electric Ukraine. In that role, he led technical projects across a range of industries, including nuclear safety, marine engineering, energy, metallurgy, agriculture, industrial IoT, precision manufacturing, and energy efficiency.
His portfolio included consulting work related to the New Safe Confinement at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, engineering projects for the research icebreaker Noosphere, automation systems for Naftogaz of Ukraine, and industrial initiatives involving major manufacturing enterprises.
Between 2022 and 2024, Khomuilo also served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Following his discharge for health-related reasons, he relocated to the United States and began building a new business.
Building a Diversified Business Model
Founded in 2025, AENG Solution LLC operates with a diversified strategy designed to balance short-term stability with long-term innovation.
“Building a business from scratch in a new country means being realistic,” Khomuilo says. “In the early stages, you need to earn money, so AENG Solution LLC operates along three lines.”
The first direction focuses on engineering services, including equipment repair, smart-home integration, and small-scale technical projects.
He describes this direction as: “What I know how to do and what gives a stable income here and now.”
The second direction includes handyman and technical maintenance services.
“Experience from Ukraine taught me one rule: don’t put all your eggs in one basket. The chance of failure is too high if there is only one source of income. Diversification is not a weakness, but an engineering approach to risk.”
The third direction centers on innovation and the development of proprietary technologies in environmental and agricultural sectors.
“This is my long-term bet and the main reason why I am here,” Khomuilo says. “Three directions are three points of support. If one falls, the other two stand. This is how a stable structure is built.”
Today, AENG Solution LLC provides technical diagnostics and repair of residential and commercial equipment, smart-home system installation and troubleshooting, motorized mounting solutions for displays and monitors, and automation consulting services for small and medium-sized businesses throughout Washington State.
The company’s mission is to help customers extend equipment lifecycles, improve operational reliability, and reduce replacement costs through practical engineering solutions.
Addressing Food Waste Through Engineering Innovation
Alongside his service business, Khomuilo is developing a proprietary technology aimed at addressing one of the most persistent environmental challenges in the United States: food waste.
His concept focuses on decentralized organic-waste processing. Instead of transporting food waste to centralized facilities, the device is designed to process organic materials directly where they are generated – whether in homes, restaurants, or food-service environments.
The system is designed to shred organic waste, remove moisture, clean and process the material, and package the processed material into biodegradable bags suitable for returning nutrients to the soil.
By processing waste at the source, Khomuilo believes the technology could help reduce landfill volumes while supporting more circular waste-management practices.
The project represents the innovation arm of AENG Solution LLC and reflects the founder’s broader interest in sustainable engineering solutions.
The Growing Impact of AI on Engineering
When discussing the technologies shaping the future of engineering, Khomuilo points to AI as the most transformative force.
“Alternative intelligence,” he says. “I deliberately avoid the word ‘artificial’ because it carries a false meaning. The word 'artificial' implies something fake, an imitation. What we see today is not an imitation of human thinking; it is a different kind of intelligence with its own nature, strengths and limitations. Calling it artificial is like calling an airplane a fake bird. It is not a bird. It is something else – and that is why it flies further.”
According to Khomuilo, AI is already transforming engineering workflows, from system design and predictive diagnostics to process optimization and decision support.
“Alternative intelligence is a tool,” he explains. “An engineer who understands the physics of the process and has held the equipment in his hands becomes stronger, more productive, and able to find solutions much faster with this tool. An engineer without this foundation is weaker. The difference between them will only increase.”
He believes AI will eventually play an important role in the future development of his waste-processing technology through adaptive process control systems, IoT analytics, and municipal-scale applications.
“At this stage, however, it is still mechanics, chemistry and common sense,” he says.
Khomuilo notes that his views on technology and human development have been influenced by the work of historian and author Yuval Noah Harari.
“My thinking about the nature of intelligence and the future of technology resonate with the works of Yuval Noah Harari, a thinker whom I greatly appreciate and whose books made me look differently at the place of man and technology in this world.”
Looking Ahead
In the coming years, Khomuilo plans to expand AENG Solution LLC beyond its current geographic footprint, expand the team, and create new employment opportunities.
His immediate priorities include securing intellectual property protection for his organic-waste processing technology, building a working prototype, and launching a pilot program. Longer term, he aims to establish manufacturing capabilities and continue developing environmental and agricultural technologies.
Ultimately, his vision extends beyond waste reduction.
Khomuilo hopes to create a portable bioreactor capable of converting organic waste into usable energy, capable of converting organic waste into usable energy. This would help close the resource cycle and advance a more sustainable model for waste management.
For an engineer who has rebuilt his career in a new country, the goal remains consistent: applying practical engineering knowledge to solve real-world problems while creating technologies that can scale beyond local markets.
