When Adam Schefter speaks, it’s usually a good idea to listen. Remember earlier this year when everyone had Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as the next head coach of the Washington Commanders? Schefter cautioned everyone to slow down and wasn’t even sure Johnson was a finalist for the job.
How’d that one turn out?
That brings us to Brandon Aiyuk. The 49ers star wide receiver remains at odds with San Francisco over his contract. Aiyuk wants a new deal — in San Francisco or elsewhere. He nixed potential trades and extensions to New England and Cleveland.
That brings us back to Washington. Aiyuk and Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels are close. Aiyuk said this summer that he could see himself in Washington or Pittsburgh if he wasn’t in a San Francisco uniform in 2024.
The Commanders had reportedly backed out of the Aiyuk sweepstakes months ago. But when Washington traded former first-round pick Jahan Dotson last week, some wondered if a potential Aiyuk deal was back on the table.
Schefter said that’s not happening.
“The Commanders are not in on Brandon Aiyuk,” Schefter said Thursday on the “Pat McAfee Show.”
"Cleveland already offered Brandon Aiyuk more money than San Francisco and Pittsburgh..
The issue simply was that he preferred to go elsewhere" ~ @AdamSchefter #PMSLive https://t.co/RceNO2tm6C pic.twitter.com/2ANbfCG9pI

Never say never, but it’s probably safe for Washington fans to move on from this fantasy.
