Strictly Come Dancing star Adam Peaty has announced his split with his girlfriend Eiri Munro.
The Olympic swimmer, who was partnered with professional dancer Katya Jones on the BBC dance competition, took to Instagram on Tuesday where he released a statement revealing that he 'let Eiri down'.
The 27-year-old star who shares son George, 2, with Eiri posted a lengthy message alongside a photo of the family-of-three.
Adam admitted that he and Eiri have now gone their separate ways as he insisted that he will always have love for his ex-girlfriend.
"Eiri and I have decided to go our separate ways," he began the lengthy post.
"We have enjoyed a wonderful three years together, 2 of those with our gorgeous son George.
"Our priority has always been to provide the happiest and healthiest home environment for him, and right now that means ending our romantic relationship."
The former Strictly star went on: "I could not ask for a greater mother for George and I am so grateful to Eiri for her amazing support over the last three years.
"Eiri and George, I’m sorry for letting you down.
"My only interest is for the well-being of our family at this difficult time so I ask that our privacy is respected and I won’t be saying anything further."
Following Adam's post, Eiri, 24, took to her Instagram stories to release a statement of her own as she revealed that she would be taking a lengthy break from social media following the couple's shock split.
The gorgeous mum-of-one, who shares two-year-old son with Adam, 27, penned: "The last three years have been so, so, amazing. Our little family have experienced so much laughter, love, and joy. You guys have been such a significant part of that.
"This next chapter of my life is surely going to be a difficult one. I would appreciate that people would refrain from commenting, speculating, or messaging. I have shared so much of my life, but for now, I am choosing privacy and I hope that you will all respect that."
Adam's ex-girlfriend continued: "I appreciate you all so much and I'm so thankful for all the fun and opportunities you have given me. I am going to be taking a break from social media, so goodbye for now. Thank you so much for everything."
Adam and Eiri first met while they were both at Loughborough University – he trained in the pool and she studied art.
However, more specifically actually met on the online dating app Tinder.
They were first pictured together on New Year's Eve 2020, where Eiri posted a picture to Instagram.
She captioned the picture with three ice cube emojis, and was later asked who the "mystery man" was.
When one person commented saying: “OMG you met Adam Peaty?!? What’s he like? Did you get an autograph,?” she responded: “I honestly had no clue who he was.”
The Olympic athlete cheekily replied saying it was "aways great to meet fans", before she replied: "I'm ur number 1 fan x."
A month later Eiri publicly said she was a "very lucky girl", and even commented "love ya xxx" in a response to Adam posting a heart emoji.
When the first coronavirus lockdown hit, Eiri revealed Adam was "the best quarantine buddy a girl could ask for".
After just two months of dating Eiri discovered she was pregnant, with the lovebirds announced the pregnancy news on social media in April 2020.
Adam later revealed to The Times that it "wasn't planned", and that Eiri had called him to tell him the news when he was in Australia.
He explained: "I got the call in Australia, with her crying. I was like, ‘Ok, this is going to change my life forever.'"
The pair welcomed their son George-Anderson Adetola Peaty in September 2020.
At the time, Eiri wrote: “Everything I’ve ever wanted is now in my arms.”
Adam later revealed in an Instagram live video that becoming a father had drastically changed his life.
He added: “Home is pretty much everything to me because as an athlete it is pretty much go, go, go, go. Fast, fast, fast, push, push, push."
