Samuel Monroe Jr, the character actor known for his roles in Menace II Society, Tales from the Hood, Set It Off and The Players Club, died at 52 on the night of August 26 after a hospitalization that began in the spring. His mother, Joyce Patton, announced the death publicly and asked people to pray for his three children.
Nearly everything known about his illness comes from his family rather than from any hospital or physician. Relatives have said he was admitted with a severe case of meningitis and MRSA pneumonia, and that his condition worsened over the summer.
