Climate activists rallied outside of the annual charity baseball match between Democrats and Republicans, after earlier threatening to “shut down” the game to raise awareness of the climate crisis.
Demonstraters with Now or Never initially planned to disrupt Thursday’s game, which ended a little after 8pm as a result of a sudden Washington DC summer storm that began raining down on the crowd as the sun was setting. But a massive Capitol Police and MPDC presence, coupled with the Democrats’ announcement of a deal between Senate Joe Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to invest in climate action and other key priorities, appeared to have muted those plans slightly. Still, roughly 100 people rallied outside of Nationals Park.
