Activists buy halal meat to counter jhatka drive in Mysuru

MYSURU/CHIKKAMAGALURU: Amid a drive by rightwing activists urging the Hindu community not to buy halal meat, writers and activists led by noted Kannada litterateur Devanura Mahadeva on Sunday bought meat from shops in Mysuru owned by Muslims to counter the campaign.

While the campaign asking people not to buy halal meat had marginal or no impact in Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar districts, Chikkamagaluru saw a fair being organised to promote jhatka-cut meat where it was sold at a discounted price.
