PUNE: The city crime branch officers rescued a Sayyednagar resident (30) from Nana Peth on Sunday afternoon within hours after five men abducted him around 11am from a petrol pump at Shewalewadi on the Pune-Solapur highway.
The victim had a dispute with one of the abductors over a loan of Rs20,000 he had taken from the latter, police said. He had repaid Rs15,000, but the lender was troubling him for the remaining amount.
“We have have registered a case against them with the Hadapsar police after the victim’s brother-in-law lodged a complaint,” a crime branch officer said.
Assistant commissioner of police (crime) Gajanan Tompe and his team, comprising inspector Hemant Patil and assistant inspector Prasad Lonare, arrested Deepak Mohan Taktod, Chagan Vitthal Jagdale, Bhagwan Dattu Shinde, Vishal Nanasaheb Sawant and Vijay Siddheshwar Shitole, all residents of Mhada in Solapur district. “Shinde, convicted for life in a murder case, is out on parole, Jagdale is an illegal moneylender. The others are farmers,” said Patil.
The police said the victim and the arrested men were from the same village. The police said the victim and his brother-in-law were heading towards Solapur from Pune on a motorcycle and had stopped at the Shewalewadi fuel station. The five men following them in a car had abducted the suspect from there.
