Abbey Vale were in seventh heaven on the opening day of the season.
The Maryfield Park side romped to a 7-0 win over Lochmaben as their South of Scotland League Cup fixtures began.
Vale coach Michael Love said: “It took us about half an hour to get going but after we got our first goal we got another two or three before half-time and it was a pretty comfortable win for us.
“You can’t ask for better than seven goals, a clean sheet and using all subs to get a lot of boys a lot of game time so it was a good run out for us.”
Vale were 4-0 up at the break thanks to a double from Aiden Kerr as well as goals from Callum Summerbee and Sam Jess.
Lewis McKenna and Liam Paterson struck after the break, an own goal completing a 7-0 win for Vale.”
Love added: “At the start we were a wee bit static in our movement. Then the team started to get a bit of information from the sidelines and moved about a bit which created spaces for us, especially down the right-hand side in the first half.
“It was good to see Aiden getting goals as that’s one of the reasons he’s been brought in. Young Callum got his first goal in Abbey Vale colours, young Sam Jess got a good goal so there were a lot of goals shared about.”
Vale’s league fixtures begin on Saturday with Wigtown making the trip to New Abbey.
