Abandoned home of mum of Scots murderer Luke Mitchell 'frozen in time'

Chilling footage of an abandoned caravan site belonging to the mother of convicted Scots killer Luke Mitchell has emerged online, showing the old outbuilding full of personal belongings.

Mitchell was convicted of killing 14-year-old Jodi Jones in 2003. He was ordered to serve at least 20 years in prison despite insisting his innocence throughout court proceedings and his entire stint behind bars.

In 2021, a Channel 5 documentary exploring the murder touched on the impact of Luke's mum Corinne and how she was living in an old outbuilding within a derelict caravan site with no running water, electricity or even a toilet.

The site, former Scott's Caravans, is located at Mayfield Industrial Estate - next to a Shell garage - and has grown neglected and frozen in time, reports EdinburghLive.

But in a recently uploaded TikTok video, two 'explorers' ventured into the shed and exposed old newspaper clippings of Luke that Corinne had kept, along with personal items such as old CD's and clothes.

During the Channel 5 documentary, Murder in a Small Town, Corinne told camera crews how she was made to leave her family home and had lived at the old caravan site for six years.

She added that 40 caravans within the park were destroyed following Luke's conviction, describing the scenes as "utter carnage" after cops asked her to go out to the site at 3am.

The video is captioned: "Exploring the abandoned building in Mayfield that belongs to Luke Mitchell." The Record previously reported how Corinne owned the caravan park, but it is not known whether Luke ever lived on site.

Inside the ghostly out-building, which Corinne says was her former office, the floor is strewn with old caravan parts and boxes, with old CD's and boxes also left half packed.

Two damaged caravans also remain outside the shed-like building as Corinne previously states that was "all she has left". The 61-year-old was last known to have been struggling with health problems as a result of her living situation.

In August 2022, a planning application was submitted which, if granted, would turn the derelict site into a residential development consisting of one, two and three-bedroom homes.

Mitchell is facing an open-ended sentence due to the fact he remains adamant that he did not kill Jodi, his girlfriend at the time.

To qualify for release in 2025, Mitchell would have to plead guilty to the brutal murder in front of the parole board. Mitchell was just 14 when accused of the murder of Jodi Jones after her body was found in a woodland area near Dalkeith.
