Abandoned Edinburgh city centre restaurant on the market as 'new business idea'

A city centre restaurant has been put on the market, after the business stopped trading earlier this year.

El Paso Mexican Bar and Restaurant, which was running for the last five years, offered between 50 to 60 covers at a time. Sellers say the size, scope, and location of the property would lend itself to a variety of different ‘international cuisines’.

As the cost of living crisis continues on, El Paso joined the list of many popular Edinburgh eateries forced to close their doors when they shut up shop in June. Owners hope a new venture can breathe a new lease of life into the building.

Those interested in the venture would need a three-month deposit, valid business references, and an alcohol licence. The annual rent for the business sits at £30,000 per year.

Prior to being El Paso, the space housed The Spice Pavilion Indian Restaurant. Another successful venture, they remained open for seven years.

Located on Dundas Street, the business is a stone's throw from a Lothian bus stop and just minutes from Princes Street. Owners say the spot has a high footfall with both local residents and tourists alike, throughout the year.

The listing on BusinessesForSale.com reads: “This Edinburgh New Town property was functioning as a Mexican bar and restaurant which stopped trading in June 2022.

“The lease is now for sale, and the property has the potential and capacity to operate as a new business venture. The owner is open to potential new business ideas for the property.

“The property is basement level with a functional bar and dining area that can be separated into two areas: the first is on immediate entry and the second room it leads into has an original stone wall of the Georgian architecture.

“The property also contains a fully equipped kitchen, separate gents and ladies toilets, storage for fridges and stock as well as a separate bin storage area. Interior decor and the property have been extremely well looked after by our clients allowing new owners to benefit from small capital expenditure to completely furnish, redesign and renovate from an already high-end internal fit-out.”

More information on the building can be found here.
