Jordan Love’s first season as the Packers starting quarterback has had its ups and downs.
Although Green Bay started 3–6, Love has led the Packers to a three-game winning streak, including the most recent win over the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs on Sunday night.
Former Packers starter Aaron Rodgers is not at all surprised by Love’s recent strong performances. Speaking with The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Rodgers urged fans and the NFL world to be patient with the young quarterback.
“No, no I’m not [surprised],” Rodgers said. “He’s playing, especially the last three games, outstanding. But, he’s in his first year starting. As well as he’s playing, can we not crown him right now? For his own sake. Because, we shouldn’t do that to kids. We shouldn’t crown them, and we shouldn’t cancel them. ... I love Jordan and I think he’s gonna be a great player in the league for a long time, but can we let him play his career?”

This isn’t the first time Rodgers has outwardly supported his Packers successor. Any time he's asked about concerns regarding Love, Rodgers tends to show support for him, and will text Love after certain games. Rodgers even admitted on his Tuesday appearance that he will text friends to ask how Love is doing if he can’t catch the game.
The support for Love may come as a surprise for some fans, Rodgers said, but he still has so many strong ties to the Green Bay organization and doesn’t want to see them fail.
“There’s some people who probably think I was rooting against the Packers this year because of Jordan—couldn’t be farther from the truth,” Rodgers continued. “I’m not a bitter person about that. Obviously I wish things had gone different when I was in Green Bay, and there’s things I wish I had done better, but I have so much love for that organization.”
The Packers will try to make it four straight wins this week when they face the Giants on Monday Night Football.
