Jets fans were thrilled to see injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers walking around without crutches and throwing the football during warmups at MetLife Stadium ahead of the team’s game against the Eagles on Sunday.
Rodgers is rehabilitating the ruptured right Achilles tendon he hurt in the Jets’ season opener Sept. 11 against the Bills. Although Rodgers couldn’t play in the Jets’ 20-14 upset win over the Eagles, the four-time MVP still managed to impact his team’s performance.
During the game, Rodgers wore a headset and offered play-calling suggestions to offensive coaches, according to The Athletic. New York registered one offensive touchdown to go along with four Greg Zuerlein field goals to take down the league’s final undefeated team.
While Rodgers was on the sideline during Sunday’s game, Jets quarterback Zach Wilson said he didn’t interact with Rodgers during the game.
“I think [Rodgers] was mostly in there talking to the coaches,” Wilson said. “Obviously, my headset is just with [offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett], but it’s always good having him around.”
Wilson completed 19 of 33 passes with 186 yards and zero interceptions, despite being sacked five times. The Jets’ defense forced four turnovers, including three interceptions, and held Philadelphia’s offense scoreless in the second half.
Rodgers underwent a “speed bridge” surgery on Sept. 13 to repair his Achilles. The procedure is aimed at shortening the typical rehabilitation process. Although the surgery does not guarantee that result, it’s possible Rodgers could return by mid-January if the Jets earn a playoff berth.
New York (3-3) has a bye in Week 7 before returning to action Oct. 29 against the rival Giants at MetLife Stadium.
