On Wednesday, Aaron Rodgers was officially introduced as a member of the New York Jets after the long-expected trade went through this week. For the Packers, it was an end of era as Rodgers had been the franchise’s starting quarterback since 2008.
So, you can understand the frustration from Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst who said that he wasn’t able to get a hold of Rodgers despite repeated phone calls to the quarterback’s phone. During the introductory press conference, Rodgers was asked about those communication struggles. And don’t worry: He had a story ready to go to explain that.
According to Rodgers, he didn’t speak with the Packers because they didn’t try to FaceTime him.

Rodgers said that his home has poor cell service, so if they wanted to get a hold of him, they needed to call him on FaceTime. He said that no FaceTimes from the Packers were in his call history.
Of course, a FaceTime call uses more data than a regular phone call. Rodgers could have also turned on wifi-enabled calls in settings if his home’s cell service was really getting in the way of communications with the Packers. After all, it’s his career! Seems like you’d want to be able to take those calls. We already know from Adam Schefter that he answers on iMessage.
It’s safe to say that fans weren’t exactly buying that explanation.

Should really spend some time researching that wi-fi calling setting on his phone. https://t.co/SoYY7rvHzm

That was quite the story, though.
