Aaron Rodgers Answers Question About How Long He’ll Play for Jets

When the Jets officially acquired four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers from the Packers, it was a clear sign that the franchise, which hasn’t reached the postseason in 12 years, is fully shifting into win-now mode. But how long does the 39-year-old quarterback plan on playing in New York?

Following Wednesday’s introductory press conference, the answer is not quite clear.

Rodgers avoided any specifics when asked about his future beyond the 2023 season, although he mentioned a desire to play into his 40s and said he plans on being with the Jets “for the foreseeable future.”

“I’m an older player, so there’s a lot more than just the playing part—there’s the body part that comes into play,” Rodgers said. “The reason I take care of myself is to allow myself to continue to play into my 40s. I’d always dreamt of being a starter at 40. I’ll turn 40 in December of this year. But I’m gonna be here for the foreseeable future.”

The Jets gave up picks in the first, second and sixth rounds in this year’s draft—along with conditional 2024 second-round pick—to the Packers in exchange for Rodgers and picks Nos. 15 and 170 in this year’s draft. Rodgers started all 17 games for Green Bay last season, throwing for 3,695 yards, 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
