Rangers flop Aaron Ramsey appears to have been stripped of his squad number at Juventus as his career suffers yet another setback.
The Welshman spent the second half of last season on loan at Ibrox and was initially tipped as a major coup for Gio van Bronckhorst. But the dream signing quickly turned into a nightmare as injury prevented the former Arsenal star from making any substantial impact. His last act in light blue was his costly missed penalty in the Europa League final and he returns to Juventus with his options dwindling.
The 31-year-old now finds himself in an awkward situation as Juve are seemingly determined to get his substantial wages off the books, but with a year left to run on his contract, finding a new club for him is easier said than done. It's been heavily reported in Italy that they want to terminate his deal.
Ramsey has made 70 appearances for the Turin side since joining from Arsenal and has donned the No.8 shirt throughout his time in Italy. But when Juventus published their squad numbers for 2022/23, he was curiously absent, and there is no mention of him on the club website.
It likely means that, as far as Juventus are concerned, Ramsey no longer plays for them and is free to find a new club. Where that will be though remains to be seen as his huge salary and patchy injury record means few clubs will be willing to take a chance.
A Cardiff City homecoming has been mooted but that would mean an almighty wage reduction. In total, Ramsey played 13 times for Rangers, scoring twice and registering two assists.
