Arsenal suffered late heartbreak at Anfield as Roberto Firmino's 87th-minute equaliser secured a 2-2 draw for Liverpool. The Gunners had led 2-0 inside the first half an hour courtesy of goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, but found themselves pegged back as the game went on.
The turning point was viewed by many to be Granit Xhaka's tussle with Trent Alexander-Arnold which sparked the Anfield crowd into life before Mo Salah pulled one back on the stroke of half time. Salah would then go on to miss a penalty as Liverpool dominated the second period.
Arsenal did well to hold on for as long as they did but ultimately succumbed to Firmino's late strike. It could have been even worse for the Gunners had Aaron Ramsdale not pulled off two sublime stops in the dying seconds of injury time. The point means that Arsenal now have a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, but with Manchester City's more favourable run in, it appears as though they have ceded control to Pep Guardiola's side. With all that going on it felt like the perfect time for a new episode of our View From the Clock End podcast.
