South Gloucestershire Council's Streetcare team say the road will be fully reopened by May at the latest.
The work being undertaken is extensive as the area around the wall is being reinforced as well as having to work around utilities.
The diversion route for this period is: A38 Gloucester Road, Bradley Stoke Way, Great Stoke Way, Rosedown Avenue, A4174 Filton Road, A4174 Station Road, A4174 Link Road.
It is not the only roadworks being undertaken in the area.
Roadworks on Gipsy Patch Lane are set to continue until September with a full day of road closures planned between Saturday January 29 and Sunday January 30.
