Firefighters are working around the clock to tackle a "devastating" fire across internationally protected heathland in the New Forest National Park, a habitat described as being "rarer than rainforests".
More than 120 firefighters were battling the blaze Monday, with crews set to work into the night once again after the fire broke out on Sunday. A van caught fire on the eastbound A31 near Ringwood and the flames spread to the protected heathland, which is home to a number of rare species, according to the New Forest National Park Authority.
