Motorists in Northumberland were facing delays this morning after icy roads caused a lorry to skid on one of the county's arterial roads.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a lorry had slid sideways and become stuck blocking southbound lanes on the A1 near Scremerston. There were no injuries in the collision.
Northumbria Police and National Highways are working to clear to vehicle and have put diversions in place for those travelling in the area.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 5.45am today (Wednesday), we received a report of a collision on the A1 near Scremerston, travelling southbound.
"It was reported a lorry had slid sideways after travelling over ice and become stuck, blocking all southbound lanes. Thankfully, the driver was not injured.
"There is currently a diversion in place however, we advise motorists to use an alternate route if possible until the lorry is recovered and the road is clear again.”
