A 17-year-old girl's right elbow and upper arm kept turning bright blue. The color came and went, and it appeared in an area that had already been through orthopedic injuries. Multiple specialists examined her, ordered imaging and lab work, and even checked her heart. Everything came back normal.
The answer was on the surface of her skin. A bacterial culture pointed to a color-producing organism, and she was diagnosed with pseudochromhidrosis, an uncommon condition in which clear sweat picks up color after it reaches the skin. Antibiotics cleared the blue for good, according to a 2026 case report in the Journal of Pediatric Health Caretitled "A Case of the Blues: Pseudochromhidrosis in an Adolescent Following Injury."
