A Place in the Sun's Ben Hillman shares update after injuring his hand in waterslide accident

A Place in the Sun presenter Ben Hillman has given fans a health update after badly injuring his hand in a waterslide accident while on holiday.

The well-known TV star was hospitalised during his family getaway in France last month and had a metal rod inserted into his thumb.

He dislocated his thumb on the water attraction on the first day of his break away with his wife Gaby and their two daughters Hope Blossom and Honour Willow.

Ben shocked fans are originally posting a picture of himself in bandages in a French hospital shortly after the horror injury – but he now appears to be on the mend.

Sharing a new snap of himself playing with Lego on Instagram, he said: "Thanks for all the lovely birthday messages."

He added: "What better way to start my thumb therapy than with Lego? You're never too old!"

In a stark contrast from his first post, announcing his injury, Ben appeared smiling with his thumb in the air while he completed his complicated Lego set.

Announcing the news last month, he said: "Managed to acquire an open fracture/dislocation on the water slide. For those not in the know that means the bone was sticking out the skin.

"Word to the wise, don’t forget your travel insurance this summer. Have fun out there guys. Hats off to the French healthcare/emergency services."

After the announcement, his A Place in the Sun's co-stars and other famous friends raced to wish him a speedy recovery in the post's comment section.

Scarlett Douglas penned: "Noooo, get better soon xx" and Lee Juggernauth added: "Oh mate... hope you feel better soon."

Astrologer Russell Grant commented: "Oh no Ben – sending healing vibes."

And it seems the healing vibes worked as Ben was still able to enjoy the rest of his holiday.

On the last day of their two-week holiday, he shared more pics with his family and wrote: "Oh what fun we had!!!

"Despite the obvious setback of spending the first night in hospital we had the most amazing family holiday in Brittany and the Dordogne."

He added: "We will be returning asap, even found our ideal holiday home spot so I better get saving!"
