A welcoming new restaurant serving dishes from around the world has opened in Loughor. Callatis restaurant, located on Glebe Road, is owned by husband and wife team Mihai and Magdalena Mircea who previously ran popular independent coffee shop Cafe Del Mar in Picton Arcade in Swansea City Centre.
The pair have more than 30 years' experience in the hospitality industry, having worked at cafes and restaurants in the UK and in Spain, and are excited to be opening their first restaurant together. They picked Loughor because of its "amazing" community feel and are looking forward to welcoming old and new customers alike.
"I was born in Romania, in a town called Mangalia on the Black Sea coast. Our restaurant Callatis takes its name from the ancient name of my hometown," Magdalena explained. "We serve international cuisine, a little bit from everywhere! My husband is the head chef and I work on the front of house."

Asked why the pair chose to open their restaurant in Loughor, Magdalena added: "It's an amazing community, I've never been anywhere with such a beautiful community! The neighbours were over the moon when we opened and we've had lots of support online.
"We used to have Cafe Del Mar, before it closed, and many of our customers from there have followed us here to Callatis!"
On the lunch menu at Callatis, you'll find cod fillet in a creamy spinach and baby prawns sauce with sauté potatoes, chicken parmigiana in rich tomato sauce with sauté potatoes, beef lasagne with garlic bread and side salad, mushrooms, pea and asparagus risotto, and sausages and mashed potato, to name a few dishes. There's also a range of toasted sandwiches, jacket potatoes, salads, pastas, as well as good ol' cod and chips, scampi and chips and homemade tortilla de patatas (Spanish omelette).
On the dinner menu, there's a wide range of starters including soup of the day, crispy calamari, pan-fried king scallops and mussels cooked in a creamy garlic and white wine sauce. For mains, there's a range of meat dishes including pork medallions with French mustard sauce and grilled lamb cutlets on a bed of rucola, fish dishes like salmon fillet on asparagus and samphire and pan-fried sea bass fillet, and vegetarian/vegan dishes like ratatouille penne pasta.
There's also a variety of sides and desserts on offer, and an extensive drinks menu. Callatis also serves a children's menu and has a special 'Sunday Lunch' menu on a Sunday.
Commenting on the menu, restaurant manager Jordan Rowe said: "There's something for everyone. Our menu is based on food from around the world and there's real variation - lots of strong flavours and a range of dishes!"
Callatis can be found at 80 Glebe Rd, Loughor, Swansea SA4 6SR. Currently, it's open from 11am to 2.30pm/3pm for lunch and 5pm to 9.30pm for dinner in the week, from 11am to 10pm on Saturdays, and for Sunday Lunch from 11am to 5pm on Sundays.
