A New Orleans family clearing their overgrown garden made an astonishing discovery: beneath a tangle of weeds lay a mysterious marble tablet inscribed with Latin characters, including the chilling phrase "spirits of the dead".
"The fact that it was in Latin that really just gave us pause, right?" remarked Daniella Santoro, an anthropologist at Tulane University.
