A liquid painted onto a child's cavity in a few seconds, with no drill, no injection and no sedation, stopped decay in more than half of the treated baby teeth in a U.S. clinical trial of 830 children under age 6.
The results, published in JAMA Pediatrics on July 27, come from a Phase III trial led by the University of Michigan and funded with more than $12 million from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. It compared 38% silver diamine fluoride against placebo in children with severe early childhood caries, applied at six-month intervals.
