Historic $2.5bn deal secures NSW energy and 1,000 jobs

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and NSW Premier Chris Minns will announce a $2.5 billion bailout on Thursday that will secure Tomago Aluminium beyond 2028.

The deal between the plant's owner, Rio Tinto, and the state and federal governments will guarantee the jobs of 1000 smelter workers and thousands of indirect jobs in the broader Hunter economy.
