Alien hand syndrome is most often linked to stroke. In one unusual case, a ruptured brain aneurysm set it off. A 54-year-old woman's aneurysm burst, blood collected on top of the thick band of fibers that connects the two halves of her brain, and her hands began working against each other.
As her right hand folded clothes, her left hand unfolded them. When her right hand put on a sweater, her left hand took it off. When she tucked in her shirt, one hand pushed it in while the other pulled it out.
