It wasn’t the best night for the Philadephia Eagles at home on Monday night. Despite early celebrations and cruising from Jalen Hurts and Co., the rival Washington Commanders came in and ended the undefeated dreams of the NFC’s best team thus far.
While the Commanders played well, with Brian Robinson particularly taking advantage of the Philadelphia defense, it wasn’t all about their effort. They did have a little bit of help from the officials on hand.
After tight end Dallas Goedert made a catch in the fourth quarter while trying to help rally the Eagles, he fumbled the ball, and the Commanders recovered it. There was just one problem: Washington linebacker Jaman Davis clearly grabbed a full hold of Goedert’s facemask as the tight end fumbled the ball.
Somehow, no one called a penalty:
Not sure how the refs missed the facemask. Washington got away with one here pic.twitter.com/2QR52pBT4B

Oof, you just can’t miss a call like that, and in such a big moment, too. This play was one of the final catalysts for the Commanders, who went on to upset the Eagles 32-21. Perhaps the outcome is a little different if Washington isn’t gifted this possession after a clear penalty wasn’t called.
NFL fans were furious that officials missed the facemask on Goedert
What an awful missed facemask call on Dallas Goedert. Completely changes the game if that’s called correctly.

#Eagles got hosed there. Uncalled facemask penalty leads to a Dallas Goedert fumble. Can't call the facemask retroactively on the replay but it's clearly a fumble.

Dallas Goedert could’ve been seriously injured on that face mask and the refs are going to just go “lol oopsie” post-game

Dallas Goedert had his face mask gripped. Maybe that's why he fumbled? No call though

Nice of the refs to miss an obvious facemask that likely contributed to Dallas Goedert fumbling the ball.

Maybe Dallas Goedert fumbled because he got poked in the eye during the face mask? #Eagles

from missing the blatant facemask on a drive the eagles had massive momentum to throwing that flag to end the game…such a terrible job by these refs

The Eagles deserve to get a Defensive PI call on their next run play to make up for the missed face mask

they really missed that face mask…. pic.twitter.com/lX8PNlOTDG

Beyond insane that the refs will review this play but are not allowed to call the facemask
