An American elm in Oklahoma City has survived more than a century of change, including one of the city’s darkest moments. Foresters believe the tree was planted around 1920. By 1947, it had grown into a mature tree in the backyard of a family home. The house later disappeared as commercial development changed the area, while a nearby parking lot led to the removal of the other trees around it.
