Abuja: At least six people were killed, and 14 others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a road accident involving multiple vehicles in Nigeria's southern state of Enugu on Tuesday.
Ifeanyi Ossai, the deputy governor of Enugu State, told reporters after visiting the scene of the incident near the city of Enugu, the state capital, that at least four vehicles, including a gas tanker and a truck, had a collision.
Ossai said an investigation has been launched into the incident to ascertain its cause.
He said the remains of the dead victims had been deposited in a morgue at a government hospital in the state, adding that the 14 injured people were receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Deadly road accidents are frequently reported in Nigeria, often caused by overloading, bad road conditions, and reckless driving. (UNI)
