55 hurt in 3 jallikattu events in central Tamil Nadu

TRICHY: As many as 55 people suffered injuries during the jallikattu events held at Trichy, Pudukottai and Ariyalur districts on Saturday.

In Trichy, the jallikattu event was held at Al ambakkam village near Kallakudi. The event witnessed 455 bulls unleashed into the arena. A total of 200 bull tamers showed their valour by taming the bulls. Six people bull tamers, owner s and spectators, were injured of which two were admitted to hospitals, while others were treated as outpatients.

In Pudukottai’s Avoor vil- lage the jallikattu event witnessed 750 bulls r eleased into the arena. As many as 300 bull tamers took part. Twenty people 10 spectators, five bull owners and five bull tamers were injured in the event. Four were referred to the Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy.

In Ariyalur district, the jallikattu was conducted at Venganur. A total of 641 bulls were released. As many as 300 bull tamers participated. The event left 29 people injured 11 bull tamers, nine spectators and nine bull owners. A spectator was admitted to the hospital.
