There is a buzz in the city centre with this year’s Ay-Up Market underway with plenty of food and quirky items on offer. And whether you are looking for a gift or maybe to treat yourself on a budget, we put together a list of some of the most unique items that you can find for a tenner or less.
Nottingham’s Old Market Square is once again playing host to over 55 vendors at this year’s Ay-Up Market, which kicked off on Friday, June 16, until Sunday, June 18. Live music, food and drink and a vast range of stalls are on offer at a big event.
We visited on Saturday, June 17, and put together a list of some of the items that you can find at the market for a tenner or less including a delicious meal for two that you can make at home. We asked traders at the market what their best offer would be for a tenner or less (so you don't have to).
Leave your messages of condolence for the three people who lost their lives in the tragic Nottingham attacks here.
Body Butter from Skin Salace
This natural, vegan and handmade product promises to suit every skin type and complexion. The small version is £10, but you can update it to a slightly bigger container for a few extra pounds.
Shae Connally, who works at the stall, says this is his recommendation if your budget is £10. "It is inclusive, it suits every skin type and skin complexion. It is all natural, vegan and handmade."
A delicious noodle meal for two people
It is really difficult to find bargains when it comes to food. But we discovered just the stall for you if you are looking to try something new but you are on a budget.
Grace Devey, from Gee and Gees, has told us what her best offer is for under a tenner. "A meal for two people, which means two portions of noodles and one jar of sauce - for just £8.80", she said.
They have a range of sauces on offer. If you find yourself spoilt for choice, Ms Devey has made some recommendations.
The coconut sriracha and the garlic sauce have been the best-sellers, she said. This is a meal that you can buy to make at home.
The best snack that goes with a pint
We hoped it would be possible to make a cheeseboard for a tenner. "I think people would be struggling to make a cheeseboard for a tenner", said Sam Skinner-Watts at the Essen General Store.
Essen General Store in Beeston specialise in cheese, charcuterie, natural wine and a wide array of artisan food. If you feel like you can stretch your budget to £15, then Mr Skinner-Watts said that you could definitely purchase everything you need for a cheeseboard including an array of cheeses, olives and crackers.
There is still hope for those stuck on a £10 budget though. "We have our amazing stick that just go amazing with beer. They are a fiver each."
Adorable plants to decorate your place
For all the plant lovers out there, we found just the stall for you. Chan Arnold, a self-taught plant expert, has a vast collection of plants on offer - with the cheapest item costing just £3.
It is the little cactus, which is priced at £3 or two for a fiver. If you want something different, Ms Arnold from Sap Plants recommends Peperomia Pixie which is priced at just £5.
All the vintage books are priced on offer are priced at £5 each. And Ms Arnold says advice on how to look after your leafy friends comes free!
The 'only vegan Birria Taco'
If you are looking for something to eat but you are not sure what to pick, make sure to try Carolina's Chilli who makes some of the best Mexican food in the city. It's the creation of Mark Walsh and Angela Shepard from Sherwood.
We asked Ms Shepard for the best thing in their menu which is less than a tenner. "We are the only ones who make Birria Taco fully vegan - as far as we know.
"So it is quite unique", she added. All the food is vegan, and people are always queueing to try their Mexican food.
