The Portland Trail Blazers might be the most intriguing team to watch at the 2023 NBA Draft.
And it’s not because of who they could pick at No. 3 (our final mock draft from Bryan Kalbrosky has the Blazers taking Scoot Henderson, for what it’s worth).
It’s because Damian Lillard reportedly has put his foot down and wants the franchise to surround him with veterans in a win-now scenario. It makes sense for him with him now in his 30s, even if it may not make sense for where the team is at right now.
That said … Dame himself is among the players who could be traded on draft night, which complicates things.
So, let’s be nice to Dame and help him out. We’re coming up with some ideas for teams who could trade up for that No. 3 overall pick on Thursday night.
1
Toronto Raptors
They could package Pascal Siakam and/or OG Anunoby if they want to start up a rebuild with a bang.
2
Washington Wizards
I don’t know if Kristaps Porzingis moves the needle fully for the Blazers, but it’s a GREAT idea for the Wizards as they move into tank mode.
3
New Orleans Pelicans
Hmmm. Could the much-discussed Zion Williamson trade land him with the Blazers?
4
Chicago Bulls
If the Bulls are looking to unload Zach LaVine or DeMar DeRozan, here’s a spot do it.
5
Utah Jazz
Does Jordan Clarkson or Collin Sexton help? We do know the Jazz have plenty of future picks if it wants the No. 3 this year. I don’t know if they’d want to deal Lauri Markkanen in this scenario, but if I was in the Blazers’ front office, I’d be asking.
